Chris obtained varied experience in England, in public practice and industry, before coming to Canada in 1982 and joining one of the Big 4 accounting firms, where he gained a valuable introduction to Canadian audit and accounting standards. He also gained industry experience with Suncor Inc. in the oil and gas industry as a supervisor of the Financial Reporting and Internal Audit functions in Western Canada. In 1992 Chris started his own accounting practice and built up a valuable client base including publicly listed entities and also consulted to the Chief Accountant’s Office of the Alberta Securities Commission as part of their financial statement review program. In 2003 Chris merged his practice with Maldaner Crooks to form Maldaner Crooks Watson, and this firm became part of DNTW Chartered Accountants, LLP in Calgary, a predecessor firm to Calvista LLP.
Chris focuses on assurance services under both IFRS and ASPE accounting standards but also consults with small to medium sized businesses in a wide variety of industries.
Chris is the volunteer Treasurer for the Calgary Interclub Squash Association and has served on other volunteer committees including the Finance & Audit Committee of the Canadian Mental Health Association – Calgary Region and Calgary Stampede.
Outside of the office, Chris keeps himself very busy and enjoys most sports including squash and golf in addition to being an avid soccer fan. Chris is married with one son and is part of a large family - some here in Canada but most of the family is still back in England.
